Our Community
The Chocco community is one of the oldest in Peru, proud of its Inca ancestry. Her most famous ancestor was Mama Anahurque, wife of the most powerful ruler the Inca Pachacutec.
It wasn't until 1555, 23 years after the Spanish colonized the Inca empire, that King Charles I of Spain recognized them as an indigenous community. After another 371 years, they were formally recognized by the state of Peru on September 23. Within its large territory, the Chocco community is mainly composed of farmers.
The Inca ancestral knowledge allowed them to create a solid agricultural activity, with the process of colonization many spiritual practices were adapted creating a process of syncrertism. Among its festivities are the celebration of the Holy Cross, the Virgen del Carmen and the anniversary of its community (September 23). These days, you see parades, prayers, toasts, guinea pigs are eaten and dances are customary in every street of the bar
